Built-in Local AI lets Smart MindMap generate diagrams using a local model that runs on your computer. It is the easiest AI option because you do not need to install external AI software or enter an API key.
You need internet only for the initial model download. After that, local generation can run on your PC.
Smart MindMap includes a curated built-in model catalog based on Gemma 4 GGUF models. The default option is chosen to balance speed and quality for diagram generation.
Yes. If you already use local AI tools, you can import a GGUF model file that matches the built-in catalog.
For the best experience, 16 GB RAM or more is recommended. A dedicated GPU with VRAM can significantly improve local generation speed. Lighter models are better for weaker PCs.
Yes, but it can be slower. CPU-only generation is supported, but larger diagrams and larger local models take longer.
Yes. You can remove downloaded models from the app and free disk space when you no longer need them.
Yes. Smart MindMap supports Built-in Local AI, OpenAI (BYOK), Ollama, LM Studio, and Manual Clipboard mode.
Use OpenAI if you want premium cloud quality, faster responses on weaker hardware, or access to newer world knowledge.
Use them if you already manage local AI models yourself and want full control over the runtime and model selection.
Manual Clipboard mode helps you use Smart MindMap with external AI tools manually. Smart MindMap prepares prompts and reads pasted responses, but you stay in control of what is copied and where it is sent.
You can create mind maps, concept maps, flowcharts, swimlane diagrams, UML class and sequence diagrams, ER diagrams, org charts, fishbone diagrams, network diagrams, Venn diagrams, SDL diagrams, and more.
Yes. You can start from a blank canvas, templates, reusable stencils, or custom shapes.
Yes. Smart MindMap includes Presentation Builder and Pitch Mode for turning diagrams into slide-based presentations.
Smart MindMap supports export to PowerPoint (PPTX), PDF, SVG, PNG, JPG, BMP, and GIF.
The local runtime may need to load the model into memory before generation starts. After that, repeated requests on the same model are usually faster.
Performance depends on available RAM, GPU acceleration, model size, context size, and what else is using your system resources.
Try a lighter local model, reduce the requested diagram size, close GPU-heavy apps, or use a PC with more RAM and a dedicated GPU.
Core editing runs locally. Built-in Local AI runs locally after model download. If you choose OpenAI or another configured endpoint, relevant prompt and diagram context are sent to that provider.
